Operation KARE Opens To Serve Evacuees

LITTLE ROCK -- Gov. Mike Huckabee announced Friday the establishment of Operation KARE service centers across the state. The centers will be open Saturday and Sunday to serve evacuees from Hurricane Katrina.

Local Relief Information In counties with National Guard readiness centers (formerly referred to as armories), those facilities will be used to register evacuees. In counties without armories, other locations have been designated as Operation KARE service centers.
The centers will be open from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday."It's important that the evacuees from Louisiana and Mississippi register with Operation KARE so we can help them," Huckabee said. "We need information so we can determine how many people are here and what their needs are. This information will be kept confidential. But it will help us serve the evacuees in the weeks and months ahead." Evacuees may register online by going to www.kare.arkansas.gov. Evacuees may also obtain information by calling 1-877-2-WE-KARE (1-877-293-5273).
